Sorry for the deception, my dear. Thomas Szasz is merely my nom de guerre on LJ. I'm also a lot better looking than the real Thomas Szasz.

Don't think so. I wouldn't have gone by other than my real name in comments.

Congratulations!
I've never known anybody who shared their name with a hurricane...

Unfortunately, Kristen does not appear on the current list of named tropical storms. I wonder why not. It should be on there!

*smacking forehead*

I meant to mention this to you, but got distracted. Yes, you are about to blow my sister's house down!

I like hurricane Charley ;)

Hurricane Charley is now a Category 2 storm entering warm water and expecting to strengthen. I may do more than blow down your sister's house.

"Allison" was retired as a storm name after Hurricane Allison in June 1995 followed almost the same path Charley is, striking the western Florida coast and then tracking north through Georgia and the Carolinas before falling apart.

Unless Charley's a big disappointment, I expect that the name will also be retired after this season, joining Allison in the named storm hall of infamy along with Camille, Andrew, and Hugo.

I take that back... while there was indeed a Hurricane Allison in 1995 as I described, the name is being retired because of Tropical Storm Allison in June of 2001. While never becoming a hurricane, she caused all her damage with incredible flooding rains, because she came ashore in Texas and drifted northward, but then the weather patterns shifted and she reversed direction, drifting back south and eventually back out over the Gulf, then eastward over Louisiana. Some locations in Texas got over thirty-five inches of rain, and the associated flooding cost over $4 billion in the state of Texas alone!

So maybe Charley won't get retired after this hurricane. Doesn't look like I'm going to hold a candle to THAT!

Ah yes, Tropical Storm Allison...

"Oh ha ha, you're destroying Texas, ha ha ha!" That was all I heard for weeks upon weeks. It was the funniest joke ever.

We should have a contest to see whose storm causes the most damage! There could be a prize and everything!

Hey!
I think Alison was the rain that destroyed the retaining wall behind my mom's house. A mountain fell in the driveway. Wicked!

"Barry" gets another chance in 2007. I know we'll all be pulling for him.
