When far away in oregon the radar image of destruction can be such a beautiful art composition....
Have you ever been in or near a hurricane?

No, the closest I've ever come was in high school in Chicago, when a major hurricane had slammed ashore in Louisiana and barreled northward along the Mississippi. Of course it fell apart and weakened over land but it moved so fast that by the time it reached northern Illinois it still packed a pretty good punch of wind and rain, and I remember being impressed that this crazy weather was an extremely weakened hurricane. Yow.

I know what you mean about being far away. We once watched a videotape of some tornado chasers, and after chasing for a week, they saw a huge, very photogenic tornado. On the tape you can hear the cheering and elation at the "capture" of the twister; then there was a big puff of dark at the base of the funnel and then a lot of debris became visible as it chewed into a small town. Then all the voices on the tape kinda went silent.

Yeah, I"ve seen come of those tornado chaser videos- CRAZY!! National Geographic had an issue on that subject a few months back, adn their photos were very dramatic. I'm happy here in temperate OryGun.

What are the big weather threats in Boulder? You get tornadoes from time to time, no?

from what i've seen (living here less than 1.5 years) is tornadoes on the plains, heavy winds in the fall and winter (saw 4 semis tipped over coming down out of the mountains in january), and just snow/ice closer to the foothills. nothing close to the same magnitude of a hurricane, that's for sure.
