on watching experimental film

Holy shit, man. Timecode. I haven't had to work that hard while watching a movie in a long time. It was really well-produced, and kind of mind-boggling when you consider that not only was it one long 90-minute take with no edits, but simultaneously from four cameras.

I'm really glad to have seen it, but since the plot was kind of thin, and I've already marveled at the technique and experimentalism, I don't think I'd like to see it again.

But I highly recommend it. So much of the time you have to turn your brain OFF to enjoy a film, it's nice to have to actually USE it to enjoy a film.

Roger Ebert's review of it talks about semiotics, for God's sake.
