Good growing-up memories

They're fairly few, but one family event I remember so fondly that I actually kept it up in college, was listening to Karl Haas' "Adventures in Good Music" on the Chicago classical music station. I remember his powerful voice and his really intriguing and accessible little lectures and demonstrations from all periods of classical music. I learned a lot, and it was one of the few bonding moments I had with my dad.

Karl Haas died yesterday. He was 91 years old.

wow, more vaguely bad news

We all just got word that our Interim Provost suffered a heart attack last night. A pretty severe one, from what I'm reading. While this guy was for whatever reason a long-time enemy of my department and professionally I'm secretly hoping this means we get some less biased leadership up top, I do wish Dr. Delia a speedy recovery and return to health.
