Unlike the experience of most people who work in Information Technology, working at a University exposes one to a lot of varied intellectual stimuli. I was walking past a collaboration area in the atrium of the building I work in last week, and on the whiteboard, instead of the usual ad hoc system analysis block diagram, or silly graffiti, I saw this:
I was pleased that the camera on my cell phone had sufficient resolution to capture it legibly (although you have to view the image at its largest to read it). I don't pretend to understand any of it, but I do recognize it as an exercise in the abstruse field of algebraic topology. It makes me feel intellectually rewarded just to know this kind of thing is going on right in my own hallways.
