Scanners

Well, my old Canon bed scanner has bitten the dust. Upon attempting to calibrate, it either runs the scan head way off the end of the bed and starts making alarming gear-grinding noises until I unplug it, or it makes somewhat reasonable calibrate-y sounds for a minute or two, and then the driver takes a fatal error. I'd be upset, but the thing *is* about eight years old, so I guess its time just has come.

What's a good one to replace it? I don't want to spend more than $100, and image scanning and OCR functionality would be nice.

i've been kinda-sorta looking, too. i haven't done the research yet, and so can't give you the good, the bad and the ugly, but you can buy a combo deal now that is a scanner, printer, card reader, copier and (i think) part tardis these days. some of them are fax-capable. i think they generally run between $70 and $200 depending on what you're looking for.

i only comment because new-ish technology still kind of blows my mind.

i'm waiting for one i can carry in my pocket, though. :)
